InformaciónObjetivo:
Este proyecto intenta recuperar las historias de emigrantes españoles de primera y segunda generación que dejaron Estados Unidos para luchar por la Segunda República Española en la Guerra Civil Española. ¿Por qué "Reterrar"? No existía ninguna palabra en español que encarnara el inverso de "exiliarse". Tampoco existe ningún equivalente en inglés. No había palabra que capturara la recuperación y reclamación que acompaña la retomada de una identidad y una tierra que antes se tuvo que abandonar. El proyecto "Reterrar" quiere recuperar la historia de estos españoles, devolverles a su tierra y contar sus historias en aquella tierra ¿Cómo? Buscamos establecer contacto con familiares y, al ser posible, descendientes de estos héroes para establecer una base de data que se puede utilizar para contar una historia colectiva de estos señores. Identificación de soldadosPara la creación de la lista de brigadistas se utilizan a las listas compiladas por la propia Brigada Abraham Lincoln y, también, a los archivos del gobierno estadounidense respecto a España en los años de la contienda. En los archivos, aparecen todas las cartas que se escribieron al gobierno estadounidense pidiendo información o solicitando ayuda en casos concretos durante la Guerra Civil Española.

This project aims to recover the histories of first and second generation Spanish emigrants who left the United States and defended the Spanish Republic in the Spanish Civil War. Why "Reterrar"? There was no word in the Spanish language to accurately describe the reverse of "exile". One would be hard-pressed to find an English equivalent either. No other word fully captured the idea of recovery and reclamation that comes with taking back an identity and a land that one, or one's ancestor was forced to abandon. How? We aim to establish contact with relatives and, if possible, descendants of these heroes to establish a database that can be used to recount a collective history of these men. Identification of SoldiersFor the creation of the list of "Brigadistas" the lists compiled by the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives have been utilized, and also the archives of the United States government that contain declassified information about Spain in the war years. In the archives, letters that were directed toward the White House or the State Department asking for information or requesting help in specific cases during the Spanish Civil War.
For the purposes of these investigations, we consider that the soldiers must fulfill the following requirements:
